UNDATED (WTAQ) – This Memorial Day weekend is going to be a busy one for those heading out on the roads.
Triple-A says over 755-thousand Wisconsinites are expected to travel for the upcoming holiday.
Mark Kantola is the regional communications director with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and says there is the potential for slowdowns and backups on certain roadways in the area.
“The place travelers have to watch out for in northeast Wisconsin is I-41 and I-43 in Brown County and I-43 in Manitowoc County.”
The slowdowns and backups are because of ramp and lane closures.
Most construction on major highway projects throughout the state will stop at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 27th and resume at 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 31st.
Kantola says even though you don’t see workers within construction zones, it’s still important to obey the marked speed limit.
“If it’s a 70 mph speed limit normally and it’s posted 55 (through a construction zone), you have to slow down to the 55 mph posted speed limit.”

Triple-A projects over 38-million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. That’s the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record and the most since 2005.
