GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Police have determined that a “threatening call” made to a Green Bay school which prompted a lock down was not credible.
Edison Middle School was put on lockdown early Monday afternoon as police worked to learn more about the call.
District officials said that no one was allowed to enter or leave the building.
Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith says over a half dozen officers were there and the school was on lock down for several hours.
“After a while we started to determine, through our investigation and contacting other agencies including the FBI, that this was likely to be a hoax type of call.”
Just before 2 p.m., the district announced that the call was determined to not be credible and that the school would release students at the usual time.
Edison Middle School is located at 442 Alpine Drive on Green Bay’s east side.
The call was similar to one received by Oakwood School near Oshkosh, police said. Janet Berry Elementary in Appleton, along with schools in Middleton and Pleasant Prairie also received threats Monday. It’s not known whether the calls are connected.
