DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities in Door County say the body of a boater was pulled from the Bay of Green Bay Saturday.
Sheriff’s officials say the U.S. Coast Guard spotted the body of 59-year-old Stuart Keys of De Pere in the water off of Bittersweet Road in the Town of Gardner around 9:30 a.m.
Authorities indicate that Keys’s sailboat was found Friday around 8:30 p.m. after it washed ashore near Wood Land and N. Stevenson Pier Roads.
Keys had been sailing alone on the bay since 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to investigators. He was headed back to dock at Wave Point Marina and Resort in Little Sturgeon.
The sheriff’s department says the boat was about 50 feet offshore in about five feet of water. Officials say B.U.G. Fire launched its rescue boat and once it got on the sailboat, no one was on board.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
