GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A woman will spend 21-and-a-half years in prison and 16 years on extended supervision for her role in the murder of Thomas Wick.
That’s the sentenced handed down in Brown County court to 27-year-old Katie Heller, who pled no contest in March to a reduced charge of being party to second-degree reckless homicide on February 27, 2012. Wick was found dead inside the basement of his Howard home.
According to prosecutors, Heller and her fiancé, Matthew Moore, owed Wick money after he sold them a house.
During a plea hearing in March, prosecutors say evidence indicated Moore was the likely shooter despite claiming Heller pulled the trigger.
In exchange for Heller’s plea, prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of no more than 25 years in prison and 10 years extended supervision. However, the judge could sentence her to more time behind bars.
Heller also pleaded no contest to charges of resisting or obstructing an officer and perjury. Prosecutors say she and Moore lied about the involvement in the Wick homicide during a John Doe investigation.
Moore was convicted in March as part of a plea deal for his role in the murder. Moore will be sentenced Thursday.
