GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Green Bay man will return to court next month after authorities say he continued to drive recklessly without a license.
22-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez is charged with third offense operating while revoked, hit-and-run and 4 counts of bail jumping.
According to the criminal complaint, Green Bay police responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident on May 13, 2015.
It happened in the 1100 block of Hickory Hill Drive around 4:30 p.m. when a man who was test driving a car was slammed into by a pickup truck backing out of a driveway. The man told police the driver of the pickup got out, looked at him, then got back in the truck and fled.
He wasn’t able to get a license plate number, so he went up to the house when the driver pulled out from. A resident there identified the driver as Alejandro Gonzalez. The man then called police.
Officers worked with the resident to track down Gonzalez, who was arrested later that night. A check of Wisconsin DMV records found that Gonzalez’s driving privileges were revoked with 2 prior convictions for it within the past 5 years.
Gonzalez would get out of jail, but then was pulled over for speeding in the Village of Bellevue on July 2 that year. Despite claiming he didn’t know he was speeding, the Brown County Sheriff’s deputy clocked him going 50 miles per hour in a 35 zone.
The deputy also ran a check with Wisconsin DMV and learned Gonzalez’s history.
Gonzalez returns to court May 12 for an adjourned initial appearance. If convicted of all charges, Gonzalez faces nearly 5 years in prison.
