NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) – Dash cam video footage of an armed hostage situation in Neenah late last year apparently shows no commands given before a man was fatally shot by police.
Michael Funk, one of the hostages in the standoff at Eagle Nation Cycles, was shot and killed on December 5.
Video obtained by USA Today Network-Wisconsin shows the tense moments surrounding that morning outside the motorcycle shop.
The video does not pick up any audible commands from police for the 60-year-old Funk to drop his weapon while fleeing the standoff before officers opened fire on him in the alley behind Eagle Nation Cycles.
Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson told the AP on Thursday that that initial information from witnesses were that Funk ignored those commands. Wilkinson added that officers are not required to issue verbal warnings.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice continues to investigate this case.
