GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Monday night a small number of residents are meeting at N.E.W. Lutheran High School on Green Bay’s east side to speak with schools officials regarding the construction of a cell tower on the school’s property.
In the neighborhood next to the school, dozens of anti-cell tower signs can be seen lining the streets.
WTAQ spoke with a number of neighbors who were opposed to the tower but did not want to go on record. One woman was clearly upset about the future cell tower location and the fact that the school didn’t bother to consult with them prior to making such a big decision.
Some neighbors are concerned about the cell tower’s alleged health risks and its impact on property values.
N.E.W. Lutheran High School Executive Director Chris Nelson wouldn’t go on record either but indicated that he looked forward to the meeting and getting any issues resolved.
Construction on the cell tower has begun and the foundation has been laid.
State law changed in 2013 allowing the construction of cell towers on private property with very little input from local government.
