EAGLE RIVER, Wis. (WSAU) — An attorney now famous for appearing on the Netflix documentary “Making A Murderer” is involved a case with a more white-collar tone.
Defense attorney Dean Strang of Madison once represented Steven Avery in the murder of Theresa Halbach. His new client is accused of investment fraud by 19 victims in 2009 through the company Eliason Combination Fund.
Strang’s client Brian Eliason of Eagle River and his older brother David allegedly collected investments from clients without making them privy to the company’s financial woes after their father stepped down in 2006, leading to the company declaring bankruptcy in 2011. The Eliasons maintain that they did nothing intentionally to mislead anyone.
A gag order to prevent attorneys from speaking about the case was denied by Judge Leon Stenz, who ordered the brothers jailed on $10,000 signature bonds. The Eliasons will appear in court again in August.
