ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – A clerk at an Ashwaubenon gas station is being credited with helping to locate an at-risk senior who was the subject of a Silver Alert issued on Saturday.
88-year-old Cleo Basinski of Bellevue was last seen leaving a gas station on the far west side of Brown County around 11 p.m. Friday.
A clerk at the Jackson Point Citgo recognized Basinski’s car, based upon a photo officials attached with the Sliver Alert and contacted the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
About an hour after the Silver Alert was issued, Cleo was found safe.
“We really thank our retailers and their staff who are out there looking for these individuals and contacting law enforcement,” said Stephanie Marquis, spokesperson with the Wisconsin Lottery. “It’s just so important that we help reunite people who are missing with their loved ones as soon as possible.”
Marquis says that when the Wisconsin Department of Justice issues an Amber or Silver Alert, they are automatically sent to lottery retailer terminals.
This is the fourth time in the past month-and-a-half that lottery retailers helped locate missing persons:
- February 12, 2016 — SRB Mini Mart in Fond du Lac helped find Steve Koenig, 68, of Fond du Lac
- February 16, 2016 — Kwik Trip in Sauk City helped find Carl Vanevenhoven, 72, of White Lake
- March 16, 2016 — Kwik Trip in Oconomowoc helped find Kenneth Wachal, 69, of Delafield
- March 26, 2016 — Jackson Point Citgo in Green Bay helped find Cleo Basinski, 88, of Bellevue
