GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Northeast Wisconsin is bracing for heavy snowfall Wednesday and Thursday.
That could mean power outages.
Lisa Prunty is a public relations manager with Wisconsin Public Service and says every storm is different.
“Sometimes we have horrible storms and we have only a hundred outages and sometimes we have a very light storm come through and we could have 10,000 outages.”
Prunty says heavy snow can lead to outages, but it’s really the high winds that cause big problems.
“We are concerned about the winds that are coming. Winds can take lines down; they can take poles down if they’re strong enough.”
It’s important to be prepared in case you find yourself without power. Make sure you have batteries in your flashlights and charge your electronic devices. WPS recommends purchasing a portable charger.
“We always want to make sure that people understand that our crews are out there doing the best they can under the circumstances,” says Prunty. “We just ask for people’s patience. We know it’s frustrating when people don’t have power…but we are out there doing everything we can. Our first priority is safety of our customers, our crews and our employees.”
