BRILLION, WI (WTAQ) – UPDATE: The man taken into custody has been identified as 29 year old Dillon M. Galien. Police say Galien, another woman and a 9 year old child, were staying with the apartment tenants. Those individuals, 2 adults and 2 children, were not at the residence when the hostage situation developed.
======ORIGINAL STORY======
A standoff is over in the city of Brillion Monday and no one is hurt.
It all went down at 119 South Main Street. Police closed off Calumet and Main Street as a precaution. Some nearby buildings were evacuated.
“It’s the Floral Shop….there is an apartment upstairs and that’s where the incident took place,” said Brillion Police Lt. Kirk Schend.
One man was taken into custody. He was holding a woman and a 9-year-old child hostage, but they are reported to be safe.
“The SWAT team went in and I do not know exactly what went on at this time,” Schend said.
Schools were put in lockdown as a precaution.
“We got the call within 7, 8 minutes we were mobilized outside of our department and started creating a perimeter,” added Schend.
WITNESSING TENSE MOMENTS
Police tried evacuating much of the people in the area of the standoff Monday morning but were unsuccessful, at least in the case of Nathan Young. He lives in an apartment directly across the street from the scene.
“They were trying to get me to evacuate, but I was asleep so I didn’t hear any of my knocks or doorbells or anything,” explained Young. “I was getting phone calls (which woke him up) from family, because they had heard about the situation going on across the street.”
Young said he stayed behind the blinds, snapped some photos and even caught video of the suspect being taken into custody. Because in Brillion, this isn’t something you see every day.
“Not very often, it’s rare that something to this degree happens here,” Young says. “But, I guess you can expect it to happen anywhere.”
