FISH CREEK, WI (WTAQ) – A voicemail sent from the superintendent at the Gibraltar Area School District to parents Wednesday is sparking concern.
While no direct threat has been made to the school or anyone in the school community, Superintendent Tina Van Meer says a Door County sheriff’s deputy will be “temporarily” placed in the school.
“We have been made aware of a variety of concerns regarding an adult in our community,” Van Meer said in the voicemail, according to FOX 11. “While there has been no direct threat to the school or anyone in our school community, these concerns have prompted us to take proactive measures and actively engage with our local law enforcement.”
Van Meer added the school is following a current plan made with local law enforcement.
“These measures have included the temporary placement of a sheriff deputy in our school,” Van Meer said. “Additionally, we have shared information with our staff to ensure that they are aware of our proactive safety measures. The administrative team is conducting hourly walk-throughs of the entire Gibraltar campus, monitoring activity and checking building security.”
If anyone sees anything of concern in the area, they need to contact local law enforcement, according to Van Meer.
Van Meer says if anyone sees anything concern in the area, they should contact local law enforcement.
Door County Sheriff Chief Deputy Pat McCarty says the school asked for a deputy to be at the school Wednesday and Thursday. He referred further questions to the district.
