GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Green Bay man is facing decades in prison after being charged with raping a woman he met on Facebook.
19-year-old Donnell D. Sanders is charged with first-degree sexual assault/use of a dangerous weapon, strangulation and suffocation, and battery. All 3 counts have repeater enhancers.
According to the criminal complaint, a 24-year-old woman told Green Bay police that she came to the city to visit a friend and her brother on November 29, 2015.
Around 11 p.m. the friend’s brother told her he wanted to go to the casino. The alleged victim gave him a ride then stayed in her car and began texting with a man she knows from Facebook as “Cortez”. She told Cortez to pick her up from the casino so they could hang out.
He picked up the woman, drove her to a downtown Green Bay parking lot where he the alleged assault, and threats on her life, took place. Once it was over, she ran off into the parking lot.
The victim says she heard Cortez yell, “This didn’t happen! If you tell anyone I will shoot you!”
After the victim reported the rape at the police station several days later, officers put together a photo lineup for the woman. She positively identified her attacker as Donnell D. Sanders.
Sanders is due back in court March 8 for his arraignment. If convicted on all counts, Sanders faces more than 60 years in prison.
