SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) – A Sheboygan couple is in trouble with the law after their child had to be hospitalized for eating marijuana edibles during a party.
Sheboygan police say they were called to the Aurora Memorial Medical Center on Sunday afternoon for a report of a 3-year-old child who was rushed to the ER.
Authorities say the child was breathing, but otherwise minimally responsive. The child’s parents said they didn’t know what was wrong with the kid.
Tests performed on the child revealed the presence of THC. The child was then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
Investigators found that the family had a birthday party Saturday for another child. At the party, the 28-year-old dad and some of the guests were using marijuana. The father obtained edible candies from Colorado that contained THC and had left them on a table in the house within reach of the children.
After finding the candies missing, both the father and mother figured out the 3-year-old child had eaten them.
The father was arrested on a charge of child neglect causing bodily harm, and the 25-year-old mom has had a charge of obstructing referred to the district attorney.
Sheboygan Police ask anyone with more information to contact them at (920) 459-3333.
