MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – A Pulaski teenager was attacked in downtown Madison while in town for the state high school wrestling tournament.
According to Madison police, the 17-year-old victim was crossing a street behind a group of friends around 1:50 a.m. Sunday. Two cars and a minivan drove in the teen’s direction. He put his hand to stop them and the lead car stopped just inches from his hand.
The teen put his hand on the hood of the car. Police believe this angered the people inside the vehicles. The teen told officers 6 to 8 people got out of the caravanning vehicles, punched him, knocked him down and stomped on his head twice.
The teen’s friends ran back to the scene, and the attackers got back inside their vehicles and drove off. The whole incident lasted about 30 seconds.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he needed stitches for his head injuries.
The attack happened in the 500 block of Conklin Place, which is between the Kohl Center – the site of the wrestling tournament – and the state Capitol.
Madison police say the suspects were described as black males. Some were traveling in a white Dodge Intrepid, others in a blue Dodge Grand Caravan.
Anyone with information on their identities is urged to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014.
