PULASKI, WI (WTAQ) – On Monday, the Pulaski Community School District announced that Bec Kurzynske was named superintendent.
It was a decision which was expected at the March 2nd School Board meeting, according to a Friday interview with Board President Bob Skalitzky.
WTAQ has learned that a meeting took place over the weekend, possibly on Sunday, to finalize the deal.
“There was a meeting to discuss the contract as part of the negotiation process for any personnel matter,” says Board Member Mark LeMere when asked about if a meeting occurred over the weekend.
As far as the vote goes, LeMere would only say, “I mean obviously it was a selection of the Board as a whole so, let that speak for itself.”
According to a timeline posted on the district’s website, a final decision and discussion about a contract was to take place on Wednesday February 17. Contract negotiations were scheduled to run between February 17 and February 27. The timeline also states an announcement would be made March 2. However, a note at the bottom of the document says, “The above timeline may be modified if circumstances demand.”
Kurzynske was not available for comment on Monday, but in a statement posted to the district’s website she said:
“I am blessed to be a part of this community and of our wonderful public schools,” Kurzynske said. “I look forward to working with staff, students, and the community for years to come, and I thank the board for having faith in me to best serve the interests of our diverse district.”
The statement also says that, “Contractual details are being finalized.”
When asked what role the public meet and greet earlier this month played in the board’s decision, LeMere said it was pivotal.
“The folks I talked to said you could hire either candidate and I’d be happy with that, I had people who were employees that said I could work with either candidate,” LeMere said. “So, that is a good sign and the process was successful in locating the best candidate and the right candidate for the position.”
Kurzynske beat out Chilton Middle School principal Richard Appel for the job.
