NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) – Voters do not normally see police officers when they go to the polls, but they’re seeing them Tuesday in Neenah.
Three of Neenah’s public schools also serve as polling places — and because those schools are normally locked during the day, one police officer is stationed at each facility.
Chief Kevin Wilkinson says there was not a specific incident that triggered the move — and he says school officials saw a need to protect students while large numbers of unfamiliar adults go in and out.
Neenah school spokesman Jim Strick says many school districts will see the need for protection “in this day and age,” and his school system is grateful that the city “found it important.”
