APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – An Appleton couple was hospitalized following a fire early Saturday.
The Appleton Fire Department was called to the home at 1202 W. Spring Street around 3:50 a.m.
Crews arrived to see heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.
A neighbor had called 911 after he was woken up by the smell of smoke. He went to the home and found the homeowner and his wife in an unattached garage.
The residents say they didn’t hear the smoke detectors sounding.
A cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
