MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – An engineering firm says it could cost up to $75 million to refurbish one of Milwaukee’s most popular attractions.
The county-owned Mitchell Park Domes are now closed, after falling concrete forced one of the three large glass structures to close one-and-a-half weeks ago.
County Executive Chris Abele says a temporary fix will begin in a couple of weeks to prevent more concrete from coming down — but the repairs would only be good for more than a decade, while Milwaukee County officials and residents decide the future of the Domes, including an eventual replacement.
Abele says it’s no secret that the facility has had maintenance concerns for many years.
Millions of people have toured the Mitchell Park Domes over the past half-century, enjoying flowers and plants which are featured on a year-round basis.
