Manitowoc, WI (WTAQ) – Nothing was found in a search of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, the county courthouse buildings and surrounding areas after the office received a bomb threat last night.
A caller made the threat, saying it was “justice for Steven Avery,”. And it wasn’t just the Sheriff’s department either.
“the man also stated there was a vehicle, loaded with explosives, out in the parking lot”
Manitowoc Police Captain Larry Zimney says a bomb-sniffing dog searched the buildings and the parking lot after the threat was received .
Manitowoc County Sheriff Rob Hermann says law enforcement agencies involved in the trials of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey have faced a lot of criticism since December, following the release of the Netflix series “Making a Murderer.
“some of the emails we’ve responded to if they seem sincere. Phone calls, lot of negative ones…but there’s been some positive ones too. But there’s other things we’ve had to deal with, letting our officers know to be more vigilant because of some of the threatening calls that came in”
Manitowoc County Executive Bob Zigelbauer admits there’s been some anxious times in the past month.
“I think police are handling it and I trust in them. We’ll get through this”
Law enforcement across Manitowoc County are asking residents to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.
