STEVENS POINT, WI (WTAQ) – A trial date has been set for a central Wisconsin man accused of killing his estranged wife and then holding authorities at bay for four hours.
A four-day trial is set to begin July 19th for 59-year-old Larry Sanchez of Bancroft, if there’s not a plea deal beforehand.
Sanchez is charged with both intentional and reckless homicide in the shooting death of 47-year-old Lisa Sanchez last June in downtown Bancroft. He’s also charged with causing a shooting death while intoxicated, and not complying with officers in connection with the standoff.
A judge ruled that Sanchez is mentally competent to stand trial, after he tried taking his own life in his jail cell last September.
