Honolulu, HI (WTAQ) – Two Wisconsin men are among five newly-identified sailors killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Fifty-two year old Chief Petty Officer Duff Gordon of Hudson and 43-year-old petty officer Vernon Luke of Green Bay were exhumed from separate graves last June at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.
The military’s P-O-W/M-I-A Accounting Agency used new technology to identify the latest victims from an attack on the U-S-S Oklahoma, in which 429 crew members were killed or missing.
The ship was hit by three torpedoes at the start of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
Eight years ago, another Wisconsin victim of the same attack was identified and taken home for a burial — Lawrence Boxrucker of Dorchester in Clark County.
