MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – A bill allowing extra liquor licenses to accommodate the Green Bay Packers’ Titletown District has cleared the state Assembly.
The bipartisan bill was approved Tuesday on a voice vote. Wisconsin State Rep. David Steffen (R-Howard) says he expects the bill to pass the Senate, but the upper house would have to move quickly on the measure before finishing work for the year in March.
“This legislation will benefit not only the Packers, but other development projects throughout the state. Currently, municipalities without licenses are missing out on business opportunities because they cannot offer potential tenants the necessary licensing. This bill changes that. Municipalities that once had to turn away potential developments due to lack of licenses, will now be open for business again; that is great news for the entire state of Wisconsin,” Rep. Steffen said in a statement.
The legislation allows neighboring communities to Ashwaubenon to sell up to 3 unused liquor licenses to the village, even though they are at the limit for liquor licenses.
Governor Scott Walker, who indicated he supports the measure last month, says Lambeau Field one of Wisconsin’s top tourist destinations and he’s interested in helping the area expand more.
Last August, team officials rolled out plans for 34 acres of land west of Lambeau Field.
An open house regarding the Planned Unit Development is set for Thursday.
