APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – An inmate’s suicide at the Outagamie County jail is under investigation.
According to the sheriff’s department, a 35-year-old inmate was found dead during a routine check Thursday morning. The check happened at 2:12 a.m., and officials say the male inmate used a bed sheet to hang himself.
Officers and medical staff performed CPR on the man. Paramedics were called in, but efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
Jail officials say the man had last been checked at 1:17 a.m.
The man’s name has not been released, pending notification of family. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Thursday.
According to authorities, the man was initially booked into jail on January 7. Officials say he had been jailed 28 times since 1997.
