MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – State Assembly Republican John Nygren is not finished with his campaign to fight heroin abuse, and the prescription drug abuse that often leads to it.
The Marinette lawmaker tells FOX 11 he’ll propose four more bills in the New Year for his “HOPE” Agenda, spurred by his daughter’s previous heroin addiction.
One of the new bills would increase state grant funds for local treatment programs by $2 million a year.
The other bills would make it a crime to use masking agents to falsify drug tests — reduce red tape when treatment centers try to get re-certified — and create new state guidelines for prescribing controlled substances.
Nygren’s first six anti-heroin bills were signed into law last year, and four others are currently making their way through the Legislature.
