WAUPACA COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities say a pregnant horse that was sexually assaulted in Waupaca County last month has died.
The horse’s owner reported to police that the 15-year-old mare, along with the foal she was carrying, died on Saturday December 19.
Vets believe the sexual assault happened sometime between November 28 and 29. It took place on a property near Crain Road and County Highway T in the Town of Lebanon, near New London.
The body of the horse was taken to the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at UW-Madison to determine cause of death. Police have not determined if the death is related to the assault.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Humane Society of the United States is also offering a reward of $5,000 for any information in this case along with assistance in the investigative costs.
