MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – A state lawmaker is proposing a bill to give Wisconsin veterans a break if they want specialty license plates.
Assembly Republican Andre Jacque of De Pere wants to eliminate the extra cost of specialty plates for all honorably discharged veterans.
Right now, they pay an extra $15 for most specialty plates.
Jacque’s bill would waive the fee and make veterans pay only the basic annual registration costs, which vary according to the types of vehicles they drive.
The bill comes at the request of Dean Raasch for De Pere. He tells FOX 11 that veterans in Colorado get free plates if they have the Purple Heart or Medal of Honor awards — and when his cousin moved to Wisconsin, he had to pay extra for his Purple Heart plate.
