MARION, WI (WTAQ) – A fire Saturday morning has destroyed a historic wood carving shop in Marion.
Crews from 8 fire departments responded to the blaze on Second Street around 7 a.m.
The building’s old age, built in 1880, made it a challenge for firefighters.
“It was fueled by a lot of small wood products and years and years of dust. It was a wood frame structure with a steel shell. Once it started burning, the steel collapsed onto the rest of the interior components and machinery and it really makes things difficult,” Marion Fire Chief Joe Stuhr told FOX 11.
After a couple of hours, firefighters were able to contain and eventually put the fire out. No one was hurt in the fire.
The business owner says he doesn’t think he will rebuild.
