WHITEFISH BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A suburban jewelry store says it regrets a racial profiling incident against Milwaukee Bucks’ center John Henson.
The fourth-year pro wrote on Instagram that he wanted to look at a watch Monday at the Schwanke-Kasten store in Whitefish Bay — but employees locked the door and told him to leave.
Henson, who’s black, wrote that he was questioned by police about the vehicle he was driving — a Red Chevy Tahoe as part of an athlete endorsement deal with a local dealer.
As it turns out, police say the same type of vehicle raised suspicions outside the store last Friday, because it had stolen license plates.
After questioning Henson on Monday, officers never asked him for his ID.
The Bucks called the incident troubling. The store’s owner says it “deeply regrets” what happened, and racial profiling is never acceptable.
