WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) – A man found dead in the Wisconsin River in Wausau has been identified as 50-year-old George Polley of Schofield.
A fisherman tells police he saw a man stumbling across a railroad bridge. The witness then heard a splash a short time later, around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Polley’s body was pulled from the river about 15 minutes after that.
Police say it appeared the victim was intoxicated.
Toxicology test results are due in a few weeks, and a final cause of death will not be determined until then.
