KEWAUNEE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a local winery is helping to raise funds to help in the effort.
Parallel 44 Vineyard and Winery is donating $2 for every bottle of “Drink Pink!” rosé sold this month. The donation is available at their winery in Stangelville, at Door 44 in Sturgeon Bay or at a participating Festival Foods store this month.
“My mom is a breast cancer survivor so it also has some personal reason for me as far as why I wanted to do something this month,” said Parallel 44 co-owner Maria Milano.
Proceeds will to the Green Bay-based Breast Cancer Family Foundation.
“I did some research and I really wanted to stay local with the funds,” said Milano. “They focus on awareness and education with regards to breast cancer. We felt like what they were doing is certainly something we wanted to support.”
Milano says there is a component where if you catch it early, this is very preventable so she felt it was an important part of the issue.
As for the wine itself, Milano says it was named after the pink color of rosé wines. This particular wine is made from lightly-pressed Frontenac and Foch grapes.
“It’s very aromatic and flavorful, it’s got so many different fruit flavors going on,” Milano said.
She adds that production has grown so big, that they’ve had to source some of their Frontenac and Foch grapes from other areas for the first time.
