MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – For the second year in a row, Wisconsinites could see their winter heating bills go down.
Alliant Energy projects a 10 to 15 percent drop in natural gas costs for Wisconsin Power and Light customers in the south central part of the state. That assumes a normal winter, but the National Weather Service says an El Nino could make things warmer — which would help heating customers even more.
Madison Gas and Electric predicts a gas price break of up to 30 percent from November through March, with savings as high as $160.
Utilities cite low wholesale fuel prices for the expected reductions, as well as mild weather.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration forecasts a 14 percent drop in Midwest natural gas costs — 15 percent for heating oil users — 20 percent for propane customers — and 3 percent for those who heat with electricity.
