REEDSBURG, WI (WTAQ) – A 26-year-old woman was cited for the 51st time earlier this month after a traffic stop in Reedsburg, according to police.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy stopped a vehicle on Main Street and Viking Drive in the early evening of September 6th for failure to display registration plates.
The deputy checked driver Winona Ariel Rau Weirich’s driving status, and found she had 50 previous operating after suspension violations. Rau Weirich was cited for the 51st time and released, according to the report.
Earlier this year the Sauk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council said that in 2014, nearly 45 percent of the criminal traffic citations issued in Sauk County were for operating after revocation or suspension.
An operating after revocation diversion program was created based on that information, which the sheriff’s office said is a “vicious circle” and “a large problem in Sauk County.”
Officials said Rau Weirich has been referred to the program.
