(WNFL) – Wisconsin football coach Paul Chryst is putting a new emphasis on scoring in the red zone. When he previously ran the Badger offense, the team had much more success scoring within the opponents’ 20-yard line than in the past three seasons when Chryst was coaching at Pittsburgh. In 2010, Wisconsin scored on 91-percent of its trips in the red-zone — and almost 95-percent in 2011, which was second-best in the nation. In the last three years, the Badgers dropped to 46th in red-zone proficiency. Tight ends’ coach Mickey Turner says there are several keys to red-zone success — avoid turnovers, gain yardage on first down, and make plays when the opportunity arises. Turner says it’s all about “not beating yourself.” Chryst makes his Badger head-coaching debut on Saturday against Alabama.
