Madison, WI (WTAQ) – New test results show no new signs of the invasive Asian Carp in the Milwaukee River and the Fox River in northeast Wisconsin.
The U-S Fish-and-Wildlife Service and the state D-N-R took 160 water samples in May and June.
It found no new D-N-A evidence of the bloated carp that’s been known to gobble up the food that native fish eat, and threaten the fishing industry throughout the Great Lakes.
Last year, there was genetic evidence that an Asian Carp got into the Fox River — and another bloated fish may have gotten into Sturgeon Bay.
Subsequent sampling turned up no new D-N-A. The Sheboygan River was also tested in 2013, with no positive results.
The D-N-R’s Bob Wakeman says it’s good news — but it does not guarantee that there are no Asian carp in the waters.
