GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Packers made it official Monday by confirming what has been feared since the 1st quarter of Sunday’s pre-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In an e-mailed statement, “It was determined that WR Jordy Nelson sustained a significant right knee injury in yesterday’s game at Pittsburgh. He will miss the remainder of the season.”
Nelson was scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, and it’s believed based on multiple media accounts that he tore the ACL in his left knee.
With Nelson out, second-year receiver Davante Adams would move into a starting role and the Packers would need to count immediately on Jeff Janis and rookie Ty Montgomery.
ESPN reported Monday that the Packers were interested in talking with former Colt Reggie Wayne, but Wayne was in New England, taking a physical with the Patriots. New England didn’t let Wayne get out of town, signing him to a one-year contract.
