TOWN OF CICERO, WI (WTAQ) – A fire caused by a fatal crash involving a semi-truck and an SUV has damaged part of Highway 47.
Outagamie County sheriff’s report that the crash happened at the intersection with Highway G, north of Black Creek in the Town of Cicero.
Witnesses say the SUV was driving northbound and lost control before the crash Wednesday morning. Officials say it struck the southbound semi in the gas tank, causing the fuel to start on fire.
The SUV driver died in the crash, while the semi driver was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. We’re learning that the semi driver has died.
Authorities say the semi was carrying plastic bags.
Highway 47 is expected to be closed to traffic for several hours. The Wisconsin DOT says drivers can get around the crash using Highways 54, 55 and G.
