SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – There are two confirmed cases of blastomycosis in the northwoods.
According to Shawano-Menominee County public health nurse supervisor Deborah Zernicke, both cases involve people who went tubing within the past 4 weeks on the Little Wolf River.
Health officials say both are expected to recover and are currently being treated.
Zernicke says it’s okay to go tubing as long as people stay in the water in the tube. The risk comes when people go on shore and disturb the soil.
Since the environment is constantly changing, officials say they’re unsure which areas are high risk.
