GRANTSBURG, Wis. (WSAU) — One of the four Marines killed by a domestic terrorist in Chattanooga, Tennessee was from Grantsburg, in northwestern Wisconsin near the Minnesota border. The Marine Corps says Sergeant Carson Holmquist was a 2008 Grantsburg High School graduate, who served a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Holmquist was also active in football, hunting, and fishing.
The Holmquist family has not made any public comments since learning of their son’s death.
This is not the first time northwestern Wisconsin has lost a soldier to a terrorist attack. Captain William Nordeen of nearby Milltown was killed June 28th, 1988 by a car bomb at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece. Nordeen was a Naval officer serving as an attache to the ambassador.
