The two worst teams in Major League Baseball will square off tonight. The Milwaukee Brewers open a four-game series at Philadelphia. The Crew needs to win at least two of those games to avoid falling into a least a tie with the Phillies for the Majors’ worst record. Milwaukee is 29-and-48, two games better than Philadelphia’s mark of 27-50. The Brewers have the Majors’ biggest division deficit by far, as they’re 23 games behind first-place Saint Louis in the National League Central. The Phillies are 15 1/2 back in the N-L East. Milwaukee is coming off its first winning home-stand, after going 4-2 against the New York Mets and Minnesota Twins. The Phillies have an interim manager. Pete Mackanin replaced Ryne Sandberg, who resigned last Friday. Also, the Phillies should be more tried than the Brew Crew, after splitting a home double-header against Washington yesterday. The Phils churned out 16 hits, all but one of them singles, in an 8-5 victory in the nightcap. The Nationals took the opener, as well as the previous game in the series on Saturday. Right-hander Jimmy Nelson will start for Milwaukee this evening against Phillies right-hander Sean O’Sullivan.
