The Milwaukee Brewers saved their best for last in beating the Minnesota Twins 5-3 on Sunday at Miller Park. A pitcher’s duel early turned into a slugfest late. Mike Fiers and Tommy Milone each pitched six scoreless innings but the Twins struck first in the top of the 7th. Fiers allowed just the one run on four hits and came off the hook for the loss when Gerrardo Parra delivered a run scoring single in the bottom of the 7th. The big bats came alive in the bottom of the 8th as Ryan Braun and Adam Lind both launched two run home runs for a 5-1 lead. Francisco Rodriguez gave a up a two run shot to Torri Hunter in the top of the ninth, his third homer on the weekend. The tying runners were on base before Rodriguez struck out Brian Dozier looking to end the game. Will Smith picked up the win in relief. With a rubber game victory over Minnesota, the Brewers clinched the season interleague series four games to two and after taking two of three from the New York Mets, the Brewers had their first winning home stand of the season. Milwaukee hits the road through the holiday weekend, opening up a three game series against the Phillies in Philadelphia, the only major league team worse off than the Brewers. Jimmy Nelson will be on the hill Monday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:30 PM on WTAQ.
