GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A former student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh has been given a 40-month federal prison sentence for possessing ricin.
Kyle Allen Smith reached a plea agreement last March, admitting he had grown castor beans and extracting the deadly poison. One charge was dropped as a part of the plea deal.
Smith was arrested last November after two of his college professors became concerned by his questions about how to produce ricin.
One-and-a-half grams of ricin were found in his apartment near campus last Halloween.
