TOWN OF MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) – Police in the Town of Menasha say they arrested a man after he tried to get away from them by jumping a fence into a day care on Monday.
Around 3 p.m., an officer tried to pull over a car in the area of W. Wilson Avenue and S. Oneida Street. Police say the driver pulled into a parking lot, however it appeared he was trying to avoid them.
Officers say the 27-year-old Appleton man went through the lot and back on the road. He eventually pulled in to another parking lot, got out of his car and ran. His 25-year-old female passenger tried to drive off, but the officer stopped her.
At that point, the officer heard children screaming. He then saw the man trying to climb the fence surrounding a day care. Kids and staff at the day care panicked.
Officers say the man kept running to an empty apartment on Honey Lou Court, and was taken into custody while attempting to hide.
The man was arrested on charges of suspicion of disorderly conduct, trespassing and resisting arrests. He also had three outstanding warrants and was ticketed for driving with a suspended license.
The woman was cited for obstructing police as she lied to them about who the man was.
Both their identities have not been made public.
