SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – Officials say a memorial fund has been established for a highway worker killed after being hit by a van Tuesday.
30-year-old Derek Stempa of Shawano was working near the intersection of Highway 47 and County Highway G in the Shawano County Town of Red Springs.
Sheriff’s deputies say he was directing traffic to one lane when a van, driven by a 68-year-old Hurley man, hit him. Stempa was rushed to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Stempa leaves behind a wife and two young children. A fund has been set up for Stempa’s family at Capital Credit Union. Money can be directed to the account for Heather Stempa, account number 7240843.
