On September 25, 2013, Pier 22 on the bridge sunk about 2 feet into the ground and DOT officials say their investigation found corrosion in pilings under that pier, along with some nearby piers on the east side of the bridge.
The Leo Frigo Bridge was closed for repairs for more than 3 months, reopening on Jan. 5, 2014.
The final report confirms the initial findings, and says measures put into place to prevent corrosion should last for 75 years.
According to the report summary, future monitoring should ensure the bridge’s safety. The total cost of the repairs were about $15 million.
