WAUPUN, WI (WTAQ) – One person is dead and a Waupun police officer was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation after an apartment building fire in Fond du Lac County.
Crews were called to the 900 block of W. Brown St. just before 10 p.m. Thursday night.
Authorities say heavy smoke was coming from a first floor apartment when firefighters arrived on scene.
The fire has been put out.
Officials say eight apartments were affected and 17 people were displaced.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The Red Cross is assisting affected families.
The state fire marshal is expected to arrive on the scene Friday morning.
