MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) — Vehicle owners will now have three new license plate designs to pick from. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has added the new specialty license plates designs in the past few months.
The most recent plate includes one dedicated to the memory of fallen law enforcement officers. The others feature the group-sponsored Trout Unlimited and In God We Trust.
Megan Bergum is the DOT’s Special Handling Section Chief. She says, “The newest plate honors all law enforcement professionals killed in the line of duty. We’re pleased that we can offer another way to recognize those who serve our state.” This plate is not a fundraiser, and is available for $15.00 dollars above the cost of your registration.
The In God We Trust license plate has a one time issuance fee of $15.00 as well, and the money goes to the Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs Trust Fund. The $25.00 dollar additional cost is transferred to the Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs (WDVA), Veterans Trust Fund to support Wisconsin Veteran’s Home care.
Also new this spring, is the Trout Unlimited license plate which was released in March. Purchasing these plates includes the $15 issuance fee for non-personalized plates and an additional $25 tax-deductible donation. Funds generated from these plates go toward the organization’s goal of conserving wetlands in North America.
Motorists can order specialty license plates that are personalized, if the characters are not already taken. A handy DOT online tool checks whether the personalization is already in use.
