The 4th annual Wisconsin Sports Awards Banquet was held Thursday night at the Beacon on the Kohler Company campus and it was indeed, Wisconsin’s night. The University of Wisconsin went home with nearly all of the major awards, led by it’s men’s basketball team. Reaching the Final Four for the first time in 14 years, the Badgers were honored as the Dream Team and College Team of the year. Bo Ryan was named the College Coach of the year and the victory over Arizona in the Elite 8 round in 2014 was the game of the year. Melvin Gordon also took home the College Athlete of the year award. Even the Homegrown Player of the year award went to former Badger star J.J. Watt. Aaron Rodgers won two awards for the top professional athlete and Player of the year. The top high school basketball players of the year were Arike Ogunbowale of Divine Savior Holy Angels and Kevin Looney of Milwaukee Hamilton. The top prep football player award went to Zack Baun of Brown Deer.
