MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) — Drivers and residents looking for assistance on applications from the Department of Motor Vehicles now have an option to chat online with the workers from the help desk.
Driver Information Section supervisor Michael Domke says the service is attached to seven different applications. “So if a customer is using one of those services, they can simply click on the icon on the bottom and they will be connected with one of our representatives here at the DMV to help them through that application.”
Currently the program is available for getting a duplicate license, checking on driving eligibility for getting your permit reinstated or occupational licenses, buying a driving record, checking to see if a license is valid, reporting an address change, and seeing if you need high risk insurance.
Domke says the help you get online is from the same people who staff the help line. “The same agents that will answer all of our phone calls and mail in applications, things like that, it’s just one different medium we want to offer our customers.” He says they’ve been working on integrating the system over the last two months. “We tried to do a slow roll out. We only did one app per week, just so we could check our usage down here and make sure we had enough agents available for all the public inquiries. And we’re now at full staffing.”
The online chat is open during the DMV’s help line regular hours from 8:30 am to 4 pm on weekdays.
