TOWN OF VINLAND, WI (WTAQ) – Foul play was apparently not involved in the death of a person whose remains were found last week near Oshkosh.
Winnebago County sheriff’s investigators have asked the public for help in identifying the person.
Captain Dave Mack said officers have contacted families of missing persons in the area — and they’re “relatively confident” the remains do not belong to one of them. They also plan to review dental records and possible DNA which could help make an identification.
The remains were found last Wednesday near an intersection in the town of Vinland, near a set of railroad tracks. An initial review indicated that the remains belonged to a white male of an uncertain age.
Officials don’t know the cause of death — but the remains might have been at the same spot anywhere from 5 to 28 months.
Anyone with information about this incident please should contact the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office (920) 236-7300.
